I will be showing with wonderful ceramicist Bjork Haraldsdottir at the Landsdown Art Gallery in Stroud, Gloucestershire, in May 2019. The winter will be spent making new work for this. Further details in due course.

I am listed under textiles, but there will be lots of my prints too.
This excellent group show of selected makers from Dorset opens this Friday, December 8th 2017. I will have prints and small tapestries here. A few other works of mine can currently be found in group shows at The Red Brick Building in Glastonbury, and ACE Arts in Somerton. Both lovely shows.
New work is beginning to happen now. My long standing Mending themes are still there, but are moving on to something broader, more to do with fragility, and possibly memory. I begin by getting most of the yarn that I have dyed over the last 25 years for many different projects, and start working with it, echoing some of that work, but taking it somewhere else. I like to work without too much planning, with just a thread of an idea. But it is hard to do, feeling one’s way.
What am I doing making pots, I ask myself. Well, needing to play a bit, and finding some paperclay in the back of my little studio, I starting pinching pots. After a while I realised these are all about quality of line, like so much of my work – i.e. the line of the rim. And of course I love a wonky pot, so these are deliberately pretty wonky. Haven’t got the glazes quite right yet, so these are waiting whilst my first extremely wonky efforts are fired and re-fired – thanks to my neighbour the very special ceramicist Amanda Popham. It will all feed back into prints and weaving. Having such a good time!
My show has been beautifully hung by Slade Centre Curator and Director, Anne Hitchock. Above is a small selection of the prints, plus one of the tiny tapestries, on show. Always so good to have conversations about what one is doing, and I hope everyone else got as much out of it as I did. Show continues Thursday – Sundays until July 30th.

Making new work to include with a retrospective show of tapestries and prints that will open at The Slade Centre in Gillingham on July 8th. Really looking forward to this – it will be the first time I have gathered together work from the past 20 years or more, and working with curator Anne Hitchcock is proving a really fruitful experience. So the stripes continue, but these new pieces will be shown alongside my long series of works about mending.Â Meanwhile, Dorset Visual Arts are putting together a great new publication, ‘Making Dorset’. This will be a selected 50 makers living and working in Dorset, and I am very pleased to have been included. The book will be launched the first weekend in July. So more about that soon.

An exciting year ahead, as I continue to develop work that I started in December around the power of stripes. Like my work around mending, this interest started through my love of the visual impact of stripes, but I am fast finding there is also a great deal of iconography and culture to be explored. Quite a change from mending, but no doubt some of that will creep in somewhere. This new work will form part of a selected retrospective of my work in June 2017 at the Slade Centre, Gillingham, Dorset. More details about this soon.
